Female population at IIM'sand IIT's

Have you ever guessed the student life in IIT's, IIM's etc.... Yeah especially the Girls. Going through some of the blogs, I saw statistics telling about the gender ratio in these highly reputed Institutions of higher educations. And the fact is that Girls at IIT's are upto 20% and at IIM's its 10%. Some of the batches in a few of the IIM's didn't have a single female representative. I wonder if it was just 1 girl and the rest boys... Pathetic for the lone girl for sure.
In an initiative to increase the number of girls the authorities decreased the price of the application form to half the normal rate for girls. It may seem to have paid off since the number of female applications received was significantly high this time according to official statistics. But, as a matter of fact girls don't seem to be interested in management and engineering much, because at AIIMS where the fees is much higher than IIM's and IIT's the gender ratio is nearly 50:50.
If we keep these gender issues aside, the girls who have it to these prestigious institutions are no less than anything. When I happen to read an article recently in The Hindu, relating this issue, girls at IIM-K spoke with confidence and seem to challenge all the social inhibitions and move ahead to make a statement that "Being a girl, is no compromise for them".
