A Review on 'The Happening'

I happened to watch 'The Happening' at Inox, Chennai. It isn't a great movie, but it's not very bad either. Overall the movie is meaningless, but the script is quite nice. I think people are so prejudice about M. Night that they have kept the standards for him too high after watching his 'Sixth Sense'. Well, classics rare and making a classic in the very first movie doesn't mean that every movie he makes needs to be a classic.
The story line is about a epidemic that broke out because of some natural toxins. Every time the wind blows, people get affected by the toxin and try to kill themselves. All the suicides are quite different from each other and almost half of the movie shows 'how people kill themselves'. The movie has no real ending and I felt that Shymalan himself didn't know how to end the story. In the end when everyone was eagerly waiting for a twist in the plot, the screen was filled up by the tittle "A Film by, M. Night Shyamalan".
'The Happening' is much better than many of the Bollywood films, at the same time it doesn't match upto the standards of Hollywood. Lets hope for a better movie from this bright and talented young director.
