Last week I went to Chennai, the South Indian Metro. Chennai is home to more than 1 crore people. Streets are busy, buses are jam packed and bike riders are countless... Even then there is no objection from anybody's part in letting the cows and buffaloes roam around in those busy roads. Walking through the streets, I had to be extra careful, not to step on cow dung and sometimes even human dung. The smell of Chennai is awful as it's for most of the bigger cities in India. In fact most of the cities have their own unique awful smell. If you are a regular traveller, traveling across Indian cities, then definitely you should be able to identify the cities by the very smell of the streets. The blame can't be totally put on the government for this pathetic condition of the city. People must take up the responsibility of cleaning up their surroundings and develop better civic sense. After all, unhygienic condition of the streets would not just affect the guilty, but everyone of us live under the threat of diseases.
